Compound specific isotope analysis of diesel fuels in a forensic investigation

Absrtact
Based on the results accumulated in this project, we have achieved our goals to establish the protocols of the carbon and hydrogen stable isotope ratio technology for the oil spill identification. 24 commercialized diesel samples collected from the gas stations of both CPC Co., Taiwan, and Formosa Petroleum Corporation, were acquired for GC/IRMS analysis and subsequent data process. The information has been imported for the carbon and hydrogen stable isotope ratio database of the commercialized diesels. To gather 24 samples collected until now, we have further carried out the study of their principal component analysis-diagnostics ratios (PCA-DRs) and been evaluating the technology if it is valid for source identification of the commercialized diesel oils. Besides the carbon and hydrogen stable isotope ratio technology, 24 commercialized diesel samples were acquired for GC/MS analysis to obtain chemical fingerprinting database. We have further carried out the study of their principal component analysis-diagnostics ratios (PCA-DRs) and been verifying the compound specific isotope ratio analysis technology of diesel is indeed valid for source identification of the commercialized diesel oils.
